Welcome to Piedmont

Piedmont is an incorporated city of about 11,000 residents located in the inner East Bay, only 10 miles from the financial district of San Francisco. Piedmont residents enjoy the benefits and security of a small town, while at the same time being in the midst of the urban amenities of Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. The K-12 school system is nationally ranked, and the city has its own police force, fire department, and paramedics. Many children walk to school, and excellent sports, arts, and recreational programs make it an exceptional place to raise a family.

Several neighborhood restaurant and retail districts surround Piedmont and are easy to reach, with very little of the traffic and parking hassles of San Francisco. Piedmont, College, Lakeshore, Grand Avenues, and the Montclair district are just outside town limits. Oakland’s thriving Uptown district, downtown Berkeley, and Jack London Square are only minutes away. Many residents walk to their nearest restaurant district.

Piedmont’s central location within the Bay Area minimizes commuting. San Francisco is very close and accessible by BART, bus, or casual carpool. Access is easy to the Peninsula and Marin, and the I-680 corridor is a reverse commute. The East Bay location makes access to the Wine Country, Tahoe, and the Sierras much quicker than from San Francisco or the Peninsula. The user-friendly and uncongested Oakland Airport is less than 30 minutes away.

The commercial area at the center of town is small but features Mulberry’s, a specialty market and coffee shop with ready-made meals. You will almost always see neighbors and friends during a quick stop at Mulberry’s. The sense of community is strong in Piedmont. The entire town turns out for the annual Fourth of July parade on Highland Avenue, which is followed by a concert in the park and block parties throughout the city.

The Piedmont Community Center offers a central gathering place for residents. Available for rent, it frequently hosts community events, weddings, and parties. The beautiful grounds provide a wonderful place to hang out and play, and the wooded trail connecting the Center to the high school is the best place to take your dog to play. Pride in community involvement and village living are just a few of the reasons people love living in Piedmont.
